Here’s whats growing in the MKCCC garden beds as of June 1, 2017
Toddlers are excited about their new classroom garden beds and the new roots bed.
- We’ve got peas, basil, kale and fennel growing in each of the toddler classroom beds.
- In the new roots bed, radishes, onions, beets, carrots and sweet potatoes are making their way underground and above the soil.
- Our salad bed has been harvested twice. The children love to use the salad spinner to rinse the lettuce.
- The sunny bed in the back has been planted with both sunflower seeds and pumpkins. They will be germinating any day now.
PreK
- Our peas took a hit this year in the PreK garden beds. A yet to be identified 4 legged critter munched on them when they were just getting started. We re-seeded and are still waiting for some peas.
- Salad greens , onions, radishes, kale, broccoli, fennel, celery and zucchini plants are growing nicely despite this year’s unusual weather patterns.
- Strawberry plants have flowers, we’re waiting patiently for strawberries.
- Each class has their own potato crop growing in fabric “grow bags”, they’re getting bigger with each passing day.
- We started some cucumber seeds, they’ll be replacing the peas and climbing the fences in no time in the PreK garden beds.
- Watermelon seeds are being planted this afternoon in the new PreK bed next to the fence.
- Dill, mint, basil, and lavender plants are growing under the tree on the playground.
